Right clicking Taskbar items doesn't work when screen is blanked

mrizzo 3 years ago updated by Ben Burner 3 years ago 1

Id you enabled "Blank Screen", right-clicking on taskbar items (Note: NOT the taskbar or start menu - JUST taskbar items such as Windows Explorer) does not bring up the menu.

Unblanking the screen resolves the issue. Or in my case, removing blanked screen altogether.

Note also that this only occurs on Win2k8 and Win7. Confirmed that it does not happen on Win2k12.

Good morning,

When you right-click taskbar items to open the right-click context menu, the underlying Windows API we use to implement screen blanking on Windows 7/2k8 and below treats the context menu as a part of the excluded layer, which is why it is invisible to the host (but not the guest).

This is a known limitation of the screen blanking feature in cases where the guest machine is on an earlier version of Windows (Windows 7/2k8 and below).

As mentioned, this behavior should not affect newer versions of Windows, such as Windows 2k12, as newer versions of Windows permit us to use a different API to implement guest screen blanking.

Regards,

Ben
