Disable Backstage Per User

BIS Techs 3 years ago updated by swhite (Product Manager) 3 years ago 1

As an MSP who uses this product for multiple clients, we were concerned to realize that our clients setup with users to work remotely also have the ability to backstage into their machine. Now usually this is not an issue as they do not notice and mess with that setting, but we noticed a user recently who figured it out and although nothing was done inside of the session, is highly alarming to us that the only option currently is to either allow it for all users globally or turning on consent (which seems to be quite buggy) for all users which we also do not want as we use backstage as techs often and already have a gazillion MFA measures such as logging into ScreenConnect accounts. Is this something ConnectWise is already working on? It seems like quite the security risk with how it is setup now.

Answer

We will be releasing an updated permission specifically for Backstage in early q4. Currently to disable the Backstage feature, remove the SwitchLogonSession permission from a user's role.

Add Ability to Change Default Storage Location

LSmith 3 years ago 0

Current behaviour: When running tools from the shared mailbox it creates a folder in the user's documents. This cannot be changed at present.

Suggestion: Add the ability to change the default storage location. We would like to move this folder to the Root of C: so if another user signs in and requires an application that is installed per profile we won't have duplicate installers across different user folders.

Proper SSO on all platforms

Keith Woodcock 3 years ago 0

Currently between the 3 CW apps (Manage, Control, Automate) I believe only CW Manage does this properly across the board. And by properly I mean it uses the native browser when doing SSO. Automate is the worst as both on mobile and on PC it wants to login using its own proprietary browser which means we have to leave it vulnerable because we cant implement simple logic based rules requiring a machine to be verified by us (Azure joined/registered). Control works on PC because its primarily accessed via browser but on mobile its similar to Automate where it uses the old method of "webview" I believe its called so it cant verify its coming from a compliant device. An update like this would probably do more for securing things than any of the recent hardening guidelines that were sent out

Clients have stopped automatically updating

r matt 3 years ago updated by Rishikesh Gajul (Product Manager) 3 years ago 1

I have had this problem for the last 3 updates of Connectwise Control.  Everytime I update the software on the server, I cannot get the clients to update.  I have to run a convoluted process to reinstall.  I did that on all machines and they won't update again.  Is there a solution to this, or a way to get it done remotely, as takes days to get to all of the remote computers to get them updated.

Cloud instance should allow unlimited guest support sessions like on premise

keith korb 3 years ago 0

In our on premise Control we used the support sessions as temporary access sessions for years, occasionally leaving them open for days at a time.  We would like to be able to do that with Control in the Cloud as well but the limit of 3 guest connections is blocking that ability.  Can you change the behavior in the Cloud to match what you've done for years on premise by allowing unlimited support guest connections and limiting only the host connections to our license limit of 3?

Printing remotely

jmarczak 3 years ago 0

Remote printing seems to be cumbersome. I was told by ConnectWise support rep and the driver mapping needs to be perfect and the remote printing toggled on and off when done and before disconnection. I have number of clients using ScreenConnect to connect to their office computers and do the printing at their home office. So, reinstalling drivers at both places (work and home) to have a perfect match is not the most efficient approach. Never had to do it with Logmein or TeamView or GotoMyPC. The more annoying is the ghost drivers appearing on the guest computers redirected from the host computer and they include: OneNote, all PDF pritners, XPS and fax, multiple instances them. Why cannot we just get the default printer or any real printers the host can print to. Rep suggested disabling the other devices before connecting. That is just not an option. It feels like the remote printing engine is not designed well. I never had to load any drivers for other solutions and never, ever I had a printing problem. With ConnectWise, I seem to fight with the remote printing here and there. The good thing is that I was always able to get it working but multiple devices still show on the guest computer.

Convert meeting to support session

Felix Roces 3 years ago 0

Hi, it would be great if we can start a meeting with a user and then convert it

to a support session with full voice capabilities. Is this supported? So it would

be just like zoom but turbocharged :-)   Thanks.

large file transfer

BrianF 3 years ago 0

Large files are not able to be transferred due to timeout. I have a ~40GB file I need to download from a remote machine, but cant. In the meantime, I was advised to split the file into several smaller files. This will work, but it is cumbersome. A method of delaying the timeout or allowing the download to continue in the background would be much better
